ALEN STAJCIC BOLSTERS SQUAD WITH NEW SIGNINGS AS BEECHWOOD HOMES COME ON BOARD

Sydney FC W-League Head Coach Alen Stajcic has bolstered his squad ahead of the Westfield W-League 2014 season kick off, adding five fresh faces to the line-up with the team also gaining a new front of shirt sponsor.

After finishing at the semi-final stage last season, Stajcic has boosted his strike force with the addition of former Sky Blue Kyah Simon, who joins after a season spent at the Western Sydney Wanderers.

Simon previously played for the Sky Blues from 2009 until 2012, making 30 appearances and scoring 16 goals, and the Westfield Matilda was voted Westfield W-League Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year for season 2010/11.

Stajcic has also added depth to his defensive stocks with the addition of Westfield Matilda, and former Western Sydney Wanderer, Servet Uzunlar, Westfield Matilda Teigan Allen and American import Samantha Johnson.

Unzunlar previously represented the Sky Blues from the teams’ inception until 2012, making 42 appearances which she will hope to build on this season at the heart of the Sydney FC defence, while Allen has most recently competed for the Western New York Flash in the National Womens Soccer League.

Johnson, aged 22, joins from American National Womens Soccer League team Chicago Red Stars where she played alongside Australian Emily Van Egmond, in what will be her first stint overseas as a professional player

Goalkeeper Alyssa Harris will battle with stalwart Casey Dumont for the number one jersey this season after being signed from Manly United, while youngster Olivia Price, who joined the Sky Blues as an injury replacement during the 2013/14 season, has re-signed and will chase a position in the Sydney FC midfield.

Stajcic, who is entering his sixth consecutive season with the Westfield W-League squad, has faith in the girls’ ability and is looking forward to another successful season at the reins.

“It’s going to be a close league but I’m hopeful that we’ll be up there competing for the title,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to the new season and with the squad we’ve got I believe the girls have the ability to achieve silverware.

“My main goal this season is to build a positive team, attack and score goals and I’m confident we can do this in 2014.”

Beechwood Homes have signed as the new front of shirt sponsor for the Sky Blues Westfield W-League team after on a two year deal.

The club’s current Hyundai A-League sleeve sponsor and last season’s technical partner will expand their coverage after joining the ever growing corporate exposure surrounding the Westfield W-League.

Beechwood Homes will appear on the front of the home and away jerseys until the end of season 2015/16 and Vic Cavasinni, Managing Director of Beechwood Homes, expressed his delight at the company’s alignment with the Sky Blues and continuing on as one of Sydney FC’s Premium Partners.

“I’m pleased to continue our alignment with Sydney FC,” he said.

“I believe the club display the similar virtues to Beechwood Homes and we believe we complement each other through our association.

“I’m looking forward to a successful W-League season and wish the girls all the very best.”
