WESTFIELD FFA CUP ROUND OF 16 – WEEK 1 REVIEW

The Central Coast Mariners, Melbourne Victory, Adelaide City and Bentleigh Greens are the first clubs through to the Westfield FFA Cup Quarter Finals following last night’s opening four Round of 16 matches.

Striker Besart Berisha scored a hat-trick as Melbourne Victory booked its place in the last eight, Kevin Muscat’s team breezing past a brave but ultimately outclassed Tuggeranong United 6-0 in front of a record crowd at Viking Park in the nation’s capital.

The other Hyundai A-League side in action were made to work harder to earn their passage through as the Central Coast Mariners held off a gallant Olympic FC 3-1 at the Queensland Sports and Athletic Centre, Glen Trifiro’s late goal sealing the result.

Adelaide City continued its magical Cup run with its second 1-0 victory of the competition, Anthony Costa’s strike just before half time enough to see them eliminate fellow former NSL outfit Brisbane Strikers, the Queensland club winless in all of its previous 15 matches in Adelaide.

Joining Adelaide City in the last eight is Victorian club Bentleigh Greens after they recorded a 2-1 win over Sydney Olympic. Two goals in the opening 13 minutes from Liam McCormick and Ryan De Vries set up the win before Taiga Soeda scored a last minute consolation for the hosts.

The remaining four clubs to qualify for the Quarter Finals will be decided next Tuesday night (23 September 2014) as FOX SPORTS provides LIVE and exclusive coverage of the highly anticipated all Sydney derby between Sydney United 58 FC and Sydney FC plus regular updates and crosses from the other Round of 16 matches – St Albans Saints v Perth Glory, Adelaide United v Brisbane Roar, and Palm Beach Sharks v South Springvale.

Tickets for all four matches are available now. Visit www.theffacup.com.au/tickets for details.

The draw for the Westfield FFA Cup Quarter Finals will be conducted at Fox Sports studios next Tuesday night at the conclusion of the Round of 16 matches.
