Goals are aligned for the City of Playford & Adelaide United FC

The Playford Sports Precinct has taken a significant step forward with the City of Playford and Adelaide United Football Club (AUFC) signing a Memorandum of Understanding to explore a joint venture for the inclusion of the Reds as a key tenant of the Playford Sports Precinct.

Council and Adelaide United have commenced investigation into the Playford Sports Precinct becoming the permanent home for the Club’s training and football department.

At this point of time there has been no financial or commercial commitment entered into, however discussions to date have been extremely encouraging to the point where planning is currently underway for a fast-tracking of training facilities to come online for use by the Reds in the immediate future.

“The northern suburbs are synonymous with soccer, Council looks forward to starting this journey with our state’s Hyundai A-League team based at the Playford Sports Precinct, which will be a boost to the region on many levels,” Mayor Glenn Docherty stated.

“In turn, the City of Playford has the ability to provide a facility of a standard fitting for a national league club at the Playford Sports Precinct; therefore it is a partnership we will work tirelessly to ensure comes to its full realisation.”

Adelaide United FC CEO Michael Petrillo shared the sentiments of Mayor Docherty.

“We have been working closely with the City of Playford with a view to establishing a first class training facility in the Northern area. There is still a bit of work to do but we have signed the MOU and both parties are working diligently to have the Adelaide United Football Club based within the Playford Sports Precinct within the near future,” Mr Petrillo said.

“Given the amount of people within the City of Playford area that participate in or support our code, I am sure that there will be many mutually beneficial outcomes that will result from the proposed partnership.”

The Playford Sports Precinct Master Plan was endorsed by Council in June 2013, and in August 2014 approval was given for the detailed design of stage one to commence.

Regular updates will be provided as this partnership develops. Further information about the Playford Sports Precinct can be viewed at www.playford.sa.gov.au/sportsprecinct
