Glory Look To Victory

Perth Glory’s Foxtel Youth League team is hopeful of back to back wins when it heads east to take on Melbourne Victory this Sunday.

Glory NYL kicked off its season last week with a come from behind 3-2 win over the FFA Centre of Excellence at Ashfield Sports Complex.

The Glory young guns got off to a rocky start and were trailing 2-0 until the 42nd minute, when Joe Knowles pegged one back before half time.

Knowles secured another five minutes after the re-start and as the game looked desitned for a draw Borbor Sam stepped up and fired home the winner in the 79th minute.

Head Coach John Gibson said while Knowles’ effort was vital he was impressed with the team’s effort to claw its way back into the game.
“Last week was a really solid performance from everyone. Obviously ‘Knowlesy’ got the two goals and probably could have had more but there was strong performances from everyone” he said.

Gibson acknowledged while the result was a strong start, it was important the boys continued to improve on each performance.
“We’re going to Melbourne with a good performance behind us and it’s great to start with a positive result but we’re looking forward to carrying on with that and implementing what we worked on during the week.”

Victory was forced to settle for a point in a high scoring 3-3 draw against the Newcastle Jets.

Coach Darren Davies and his team will be hoping to secure their first win on Sunday at Lakeside Stadium and Gibson has warned his players Melbourne will be a tough ask this season.

“Obviously they’re at home and are going to be up for it. We pay everybody respect but we’re not scared of them. We’re going there in a positive frame of mind and I’m looking forward to a strong performance.”
