It’s hard to believe that at just 26, one of the best fullbacks in the Hyundai A-League is already considered, as a veteran.
This weekend, Perth Glory FC defender Scott Jamieson, will play his 150th match against the Asian Champions, Western Sydney Wanderers at nib Stadium.
“It’s amazing how time flies isn’t it” he remarked.
“I still remember playing my first match for Adelaide, so to have played such a number of games at a relatively young age, yeah I guess I do pinch myself” he said.
After a three year stint in England for Bolton Wanderers, Jamieson’s A-League career kicked off in 2008, at Adelaide United which earned him the Young Player of the Year award.
The career defining season, also earned the Sydney born left back a Socceroos call-up, under then coach, Pim Verbeek, playing four caps including an Asian Cup qualifier.
Football then took him back to his native Sydney, playing for the Sky Blues for two years before heading west to Glory, at the start of the 2012/13 season.
“Moving to Perth has been great. I’m very happy here, and the aim for all the boys now is to be part of history and win some silverware for the club” he said.
If not for an achilles injury which ruled him out for most of last season, Jamieson probably would have notched up his 150th milestone already, but nevertheless, the tenacious and gritty full-back is happy to be playing the game he loves.
“Getting injured made me realise how much I missed playing week-in week-out and I was hungry to get back out there this season. It certainly motivated me to play and play well”.
In January, Jamieson signed on with Glory for a further two years with the possibility of a third, meaning he could be wearing purple until 2018.
In the meantime, the speedy defender said he was focused on this week’s game against the Wanderers.
Last time the two teams met in Round 6, Glory won 2-1 with Jamieson scoring a sensational free-kick, which is sure to be a goal of the year contender.
“It would be nice to score against them this weekend but I’ll take the three points first in front of our home crowd any time” he said.
Glory kicks off its match against the Wanderers at 6.30pm.
