The Perth Glory Women returns home this weekend after a fortnight off, hosting Melbourne Victory at Ashfield Reserve today.
The team returns to the pitch on a high, after securing three road points against Brisbane Roar on November 15 thanks to a brace from American import Vanessa DiBernardo.
Glory will be without iconic striker and captain Samantha Kerr, after sustaining an injury to her ankle in the clash against Brisbane. Kerr has since had surgery and will hopefully be back at training in time for the Rio Olympic qualifiers with the Matildas.
Stepping into the captain’s role will be veteran defender Kim Carroll.
“She was always vice-captain, so it was just a natural progression. She’s a leader on the park, so she will be a natural at the position,” said head coach Bobby Despotovski.
“She leads by example playing the game, and obviously she helps everyone being around by being a full international, and knows what’s required to be a successful footballer. As a person, she’s willing to help anyone that’s around her. Both the leadership and the playing qualities are there.”
