Reds bolster squad with Makarounas signing

Adelaide United is delighted to announce the signing of midfielder, Jesse Makarounas, on a one-year deal.

Makarounas has previously played for Perth Glory and, more recently, Melbourne Victory in the Hyundai A-League, and is a highly rated midfielder who’s represented Australia at both U-17 and U-20 level.

The addition of Makarounas to the Adelaide United squad will see Guillermo Amor’s midfield stocks bolstered with the 22-year-old having thorough Hyundai A-League experience despite his young age.

Makarounas also featured 13 times for Melbourne Victory in the AFC Champions League between 2014 and 2016, scoring one goal in the process.

Speaking on signing for the Club, Makarounas said: “It feels great to be an Adelaide United player and I’m excited to get going.

“Obviously the team was very successful last year and I felt it was time for me to make a change in my career and I’m happy the move has brought me here.

“There are some great players here at the club and the style of football that the team plays is really good and it will suit me very well.

“Watching the team play last season, you could see how attractive the football was, so hopefully I can contribute to the team positively and bring something extra to the squad.

“We want to have another successful year and I’m ready to do whatever is best for the team and play wherever I’m needed.”

Adelaide United’s General Manager of Football, Ante Kovacevic, said: “We’re delighted to have added Jesse to our squad for the upcoming season.

“We’ve been looking to add extra depth in to the squad and with Jesse we have another attacking minded player who is hungry to develop further individually and within the team.

“He’s an exciting and versatile midfielder with a great understanding of the game for a 22-year-old.

“Jesse has a lot of valuable experience in the Hyundai A-League that he can bring to our team, as well as in our Asian Champions League campaign.

“I’m sure Jesse will fit in seamlessly within the team and will settle into our style of football comfortably.”
