Westfield FFA Cup 2016 Round of 16 fixture details announced

All eyes will be on Perry Park in Brisbane on Wednesday 24 August 2016 as Melbourne City FC, with new marquee signing Socceroo Tim Cahill, take on Brisbane Strikers on the opening night of the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 16 after Football Federation Australia (FFA) announced all of the match details for the Round of 16.

 

The match, which will be broadcast LIVE on FOX SPORTS, could be the first time Cahill, Australia’s all time leading goal scorer, takes the field in a competitive match after signing a with Melbourne City FC.

 

Notably, it will also be the first time Brisbane Strikers have hosted a match in the Westfield FFA Cup Final Rounds after all four of their prior matches have been away from home.

 

Other matches scheduled for Wednesday 24 August include a huge Victorian derby with Hume City hosting Melbourne Victory at ABD Stadium. They will meet for the second time in as many years after facing off in last year’s semi finals, a match Melbourne Victory won 3-0 before going on to claim the title.

 

Canberra Olympic are at home again as they prepare to host giant killers Redlands United at Deakin Stadium with both teams entering unchartered territory as they vie for a spot in the last eight.

 

For the second straight game, Blacktown City and Bonnyrigg White Eagles face a familiar foe when the two PlayStation 4 NPL NSW clubs lock horns after both eliminated fellow PS4 NPL NSW sides in the Round of 32.

 

Match night two is set down for Tuesday 30 August 2016 with FOX SPORTS to broadcast the Cup tie between Northern NSW Football’s Edgeworth Eagles and Western Sydney Wanderers FC from Magic Park in Broadmeadow.

 

Former Central Coast Mariners striker Daniel McBreen will be returning to haunt Wanderers fans as he lines up for Edgeworth, two years after scoring in the Mariners’ 2-0 Hyundai A-League Grand Final win over Western Sydney.

 

Also on night two, Devonport Strikers will be attempting to continue their dream Cup run when they host 2014 semi finalists Bentleigh Greens at Valley Road, while it’s an all PS4 NPL Victoria encounter when Melbourne Knights welcome Green Gully to Knights Stadium.

 

The final match sees two new look Hyundai A-League sides go head to head, as Sydney FC make the trip west to take on Perth Glory at the boutique surroundings of Dorrien Gardens.
