Glory snap up second Spanish star

Perth Glory FC is delighted to announce the signing of Spanish midfielder Andreu Guerao who has joined the club on a one-year deal.

The 34-year-old returns to the Hyundai A-League having previously played a key role in driving Western Sydney Wanderers to the 2016 Grand Final.

A product of Barcelona’s legendary La Masia academy, he played alongside Lionel Messi in his hometown club’s “C” and “B” teams, before moving on to Malaga.

It was at Malaga that he first linked up with future Glory teammate Diego Castro and the duo also played together at Sporting Gijon ahead of Andreu’s decision to try his luck abroad which led to him plying his trade in Poland, Ukraine, New Zealand and Greece.

The new recruit will wear the number 18 shirt for Glory this season and Head Coach Kenny Lowe is confident that he will prove to be a major asset to the club.

“We’re thrilled to have signed a player of Andreu’s quality, experience and character,” he said.

“He has great technical ability and composure on the ball,” he said, “along with a superb range of passing that will enable him to link the team from back to front.

“In addition to having played with Diego [Castro] in Spain, he was also a teammate of Liam Reddy, Scott Neville and Mitch Nichols at Western Sydney and they have all spoken very highly of him not only as a very good footballer, but also as a top guy.

“I am sure he will be fantastic for us as a leader. We don’t have too many guys over 30 in the squad, so his experience and know-how will be invaluable.

“Having so many familiar faces around, along with his knowledge of the Hyundai A-League and ability to speak the language, will help him settle in quickly and gel with the rest of the squad.”
