Josep Gombau resigns as Head Coach of Australian U-23 Men’s National Football Team

Football Federation Australia (FFA) today announced that Josep Gombau has resigned from his positions as Head Coach of the Australian U-23 Men’s National Football Team and an Assistant Coach of the Caltex Socceroos to pursue another coaching opportunity within Australia.

FFA CEO David Gallop paid tribute to Gombau for his services to the national teams during his tenure.

“Josep has made a very positive contribution to our national teams since joining us last year,” said Gallop.

“Although it is disappointing to see a coach of Josep’s calibre leave FFA it is heartening to know that he will remain within Australian Football and we wish him all the best for his new challenge,” concluded Gallop.

Gombau was appointed to the National Teams coaching staff in June 2016 and helped the U-23’s to qualify for the AFC U-23 Championship after winning all three matches at the qualification tournament in Myanmar. He has also been an integral member of the Caltex Socceroos coaching staff for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign.

An announcement in regards to the Head Coach position of the Australian U-23 Men’s National Football Team will be made in the coming weeks. At this time, no additional coach will be appointed to the Caltex Socceroos.
