Former Earlwood Wanderers football junior helps his Endeavour Sports High School and Sutherland Sharks FC National Premier League Youth U15 Team reach two Grand Finals in the space of 2 weeks.

 

Emerging Sydney-based youth footballer, John Fotopoulos, who is an attacking midfielder had a magnificent 2 weeks helping his school, Endeavour Sports High School reach the annual national Bill Turner Cup Grand Final for u15s in Lake Macquarie, near Newcastle and was also a key player in his other team’s Grand Final win for his NSW NPL 1 Youth Under 15 Boys Team, Sutherland Sharks FC.

In both matches he was a key distributor of the ball. Last week, Fotopoulos set up the first goal in the Grand Final from a set piece which helped his team take a 1-0 lead just after half time, with an eventual hard-fought victory of 2-1 over former National Soccer League stalwart, Fairfield-based Marconi Stallions FC. After a see-sawing kind of tussle, John’s Sutherland Sharks prevailed, claiming the NSW NPL 1 Youth Under 15 Grand Final at Valentine Sports Park.

 

In the previous NPL 1 Youth Under 15 Semi-Final match, Fotopoulos scored the solitary goal in extra time against Sydney FC, beating them 1-0 to reach the Grand Final against cross town rivals Marconi Stallions FC

 

National Bill Turner Cup (High Schools): John provides two key assist passes in semi-final

 

John’s contribution in both matches virtually in the space of two weeks recently, was a positive end to a hectic schedule for the Year 9 student, who travelled the state with his Endeavour Sports High football team, which he helped reach the 500 school strong Bill Turner Cup Semi-Finals and Grand Final against Queensland’s Ipswich Grammar in Newcastle’s Speers Point, Lake Macquarie.

 

The match was extremely tough, after 6 matches to reach the Grand Final, John was a positive contributor, including two critical assists in the Semis against Westfield Sports High which gave them victory to reach the Grand Final.

 

The Bill Turner Cup is the most prestigious Under 15s High School Tournament in Australia, full of many competitive teams from the best football regions of Australia.

 

“The last 2 weeks’ have been amazing, the Finals atmosphere, I was fortunate enough to receive a Grand Final Championship medal in the competitive NPL 1 Youth competition and a second Grand Final Runners Up medal with my school, Endeavour Sports High” said the St George based student.

 

“It has been a great journey this year, and look forward to keep achieving in 2020”
